Don't Let It Slide!

by: Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger DDS

The day your children leave the nest and start college marks a major life milestone, both for them and for you. They're on their own and now need to make important decisions everyday without Mom or Dad around to help and to provide the occasional gentle reminder. Like making certain that they pay attention to their dental health and don't forget their regular checkups.
The plain fact is that periodontal (gum) disease very often begins for adults when they leave home and strike out on their own. This period may also coincide with an end date for certain types of dental care insurance that many families have. Being in a different city means either finding a new dentist or trying to schedule appointments around holiday time at home.
Let's face it: your bright young offspring are much more interested in making their way through college and creating a career than worrying about gum disease, and who can blame them? Science has irrefutable evidence that gum disease, left untreated, directly affects an adult's chance of stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, cancer, and even dementia.
Make sure your scholar has regular checkups throughout the college years. Their lifetime of happy healthy smiles may depend on it.

Your Royal Highness!
by: Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger
Want a stunning smile transformation? Put a crown on it! It’s true that crowns protect and strengthen teeth and we love them just for that – but they can help you look dramatically better too.

THE BASICS: Crowns are an attractive option that can be used to rebuild and enhance your smile and facial structure to…

Protect teeth that have been cracked, chipped, or weakened

Support bridges that fill gaps where teeth are missing.

THE BONUS: They look fabulous and completely natural…

Leading-edge porcelain and ceramic materials mean no more telltale metal at the gum line

Replacing outdated crowns with beautiful natural-looking modern ones is a foolproof way to take years off your appearance

Precision color matching to your enamel means no one will be able to detect your restoration.

THE OTHER BONUS:

We can whiten your teeth before your crown is matched to neighboring teeth so you’ll light up every room you walk into!

Time to Give Thanks

Time To Give Thanks

by: Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger

This time of the year is full of hustle and bustle for just about everybody. With work and school in high gear, it's hard to find time to do anything but try to keep up. Even the dental office is working overtime to meet the latest advances in dental treatment and the increased needs of our patients in this busy time of the year.
No matter how busy we are, there's always time for the people who mean the most. In a dental practice, it's the patients who are number one. That's why in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, we would like to take some time out to tip our hats and simply say thank you.
You may not think much of it, but your ongoing loyalty, cancellation notification, referrals and each and every kept appointment go a long way toward making this practice run smoothly and efficiently. That makes the dental office a more comfortable and rewarding place for everyone.

Let's Get Motivated!

By: Dentist Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger

A lifetime of excellent oral and dental health is within the reach of most of us, even if we've had some history of neglecting our teeth. And perhaps the first and most important step we can take is to set realistic routines for at-home care of our oral health.
For a good home care program to work we need to find ways to motivate ourselves to make certain we follow through. Certainly, understanding some of the consequences of oral health neglect can have a galvanizing effect. For example, research suggests the gum disease, which affects roughly three our to four adults, may be associated with increased health risks. Long term and short term studies have make associations between gum disease and stroke, heart disease, diabetes, and osteoporosis, just for starters. And knowing that paying just minutes of attention a day- brushing twice, and flossing once-will help you keep your own teeth all your life is a powerful incentive.
Healthy lifestyle choices can also be inspiring: exercise, good nutrition, and moderate alcohol intake are all important parts of our overall and oral health. Still, there really is no substitute for a strict smile regimen of cleaning, flossing, and rinsing, along with a program of regular dental checkups.

Teeth Whitening!

by: Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger

Today's teeth whitening treatments are so easy, convenient and affordable that they've become a regular part of everyone's beauty routine. If you haven't tried one yet, you'll be happy to know that you have plenty of choices. For the fastest, most dramatic results, consider laser teeth whitening. Laser teeth whitening treatments take just an hour and can whiten teeth up to 10 shades. If you're the do-it-yourself type, an at-home teeth whitening kit might be right for you. These professional grade teeth whitening kits produce excellent results over a longer period of time. They can be purchased from your dentist or over-the-counter, but for best results, it's recommended that you always consult with a dentist before trying any over-the-counter teeth whitening system.

Botox and Dermal Fillers

By: Dr. Elizabeth Dunkleberger

When you think of cosmetic dentistry, you may not think of botox and dermal fillers. But the truth is, the appearance of your mouth and smile has a lot do with how attractive you look and feel. Today, cosmetic dentists have the skill and know-how to use botox and dermal fillers to enhance your lips, smooth lip lines, and eliminate wrinkles around the mouth to create a more beautiful and youthful appearance. I also use Botox for TMJ discomfort. By injecting Botox into the Masseter muscle it can significantly reduce TMJ pain. It's also FDA approved to reduce migraine headaches.

Get Your Oral Cancer Screening at Your Next Dental Visit

Oral Cancer Screening

By: Dr. Dunkleberger DDS

Oral cancer affects nearly 35,000 Americans every year. The keys to surviving oral cancer are early detection and early treatment. This starts with a regular oral cancer screening – at least once every six months. An oral cancer screening takes just minutes, is pain-free and can be performed during regular dental exams. If you are male, a regular oral cancer screening is especially critical: Oral cancer is more than twice as common in men as it is in women. Other people at high risk of oral cancer include people over the age of 60, tobacco smokers and heavy drinkers.
